You can run this program in two flavors, as unsigned applet in browser or as an application on desktop. In both cases it is the same program.
To run this program you need Java runtime environment.
Minimal version is 1.4.2, although recommended version is 1.5 or 1.6. download Java here After you have Java support, this program doesn't need any installation. To run applet click on "unsigned applet" link in main - draw. To run application click on "application" link in main - draw. Click on Open button and the application will be launched (think requires Java web start). Or click on Save button and save the jar on your PC. To launch application double click on downloaded jar file. If your computer is set to open the jar (Java archive) file, to start application write "java -jar draw4free.jar" to the command line in the directory with saved jar.
To get the select tool, click on the right mouse button when over the drawing board. The cursor changes to white arrow. The info picture on the bottom changes to black arrow. Some tools end with select tool, e.g. Fitt All or Group.
To select shape you:
Shapes can be selected only from one layer. If the shape is not added to selection, check, if they are in the same layer. Exception is only subtree selection. If you want to select some shapes from one layer and some from another and edit them (e.g. move or rotate), then you picture drawing tree has not good structure. Refactor it.
If mouse is over drawing board, hold Ctrl button on keyboard by selection to add or remove shapes to selection. If your mouse is over drawing tree, hold Ctrl and click on mouse will add shape to the selection (not remove).
If your mouse is over drawing tree, hold Shift and click on mouse will add all shapes between selected shape and the shape you clicked on.
Subtree selection. To manipulate objects, use subtree selection. Click on the layer in the drawing tree with the left mouse button, then click on right mouse button and click on Select subtree in popup.
Shape can be selected in two modes:
The style selection mode 
is used for changing the style of the object. The selected object is just
placed in rectangle and by changing the color or line style in Properties the object will change.
In the geometry mode 
you can change shape if you press left mouse button over small square in
the shape. Holding the mouse button move the mouse. After you reached requested
shape, release the mouse button. Second possibility is to click on number property
(only available if one shape selected) and input number coordinates.
Click on the 
Line button.
The cursor changes to cross. The info picture on the bottom changes to line.
Move the mouse so the cursor is over drawing board and press left button for
start point. Hold the button and move the mouse. You can see the rubber band.
Release the button for end point. In the right top panel is added row with line
picture and text under selected layer. For next line press left mouse button
again.
Click on the 
Polyline
button. The cursor changes to cross. The info picture on the bottom changes
to line. Move the mouse so the cursor is over drawing board and press left button
for start point. Hold the button and move the mouse. You can see the rubber
band. Release the button for end point. Move the mouse. Anytime you want press
left button and rubber band appears where start point is the last point of previous
line. Releasing button will add line to the existing polyline. You can add as
many pieces as you want. In the right top panel is added row with polyline picture
and text under selected layer if it consists of more than one piece. For new
polyline press Polyline button in right menu again and press left mouse button
over drawing board.
Polygon button.
Choose shape of polygon Dialog appears. With the left mouse button click on the
scale or hold the pointer and move it. After selecting desired number of sides
click button OK. Move mouse over drawing board and press left mouse button. Hold
the button and move the mouse. You can see rubber band in the shape of polygon.
After your reached desired shape, release the left mouse button. In the right
top panel is added row with polygon picture and text under selected layer. For
next Polygon press again left mouse button over drawing board. For Polygon with
different number of sides press Polygon button in right menu.
Click on the 
Rectangle
button. Move mouse over drawing board and press left mouse button. Move the
mouse. Release left mouse button after you reached desired shape. In the right
top panel is added row with rectangle picture and text under selected layer.
Click on the 
Circle button.
Move mouse over drawing board and press left mouse button where you want to
be the center of circle. Move the mouse. Release left mouse button after you
reached desired shape. In the right top panel is added row with circle picture
and text under selected layer. For next circle press again left mouse button
over drawing board.
Click on the 
Ellipse button.
Move mouse over drawing board and press left mouse. Hold the left button and
move the mouse. When you reached desired length and angle of the first axe (a),
release the mouse button. Press left mouse button again and move the mouse.
After you reached the desired length of second axe (b), release the mouse button.
The ellipse will be drawn. In the right top panel is added row with ellipse
picture and text under selected layer.
Arc button. Move
mouse over drawing board and press left mouse where should be the start point
of arc. Hold the left button and move the mouse. Release the mouse button, where
should be the point laying on the arc. Press left mouse button again and move
the mouse. Release the button, where should be the end point of arc. The arc will
be drawn. In the right top panel is added row with arc picture and text under
selected layer.
Curve button.
Move mouse over drawing board and press left mouse button where should be the
start point of curve. Holding the button move the mouse in the direction, in which
the curve should go from start point. Release the mouse button, where should be
the first control point. Move mouse where you want next point of curve and press
the left mouse button. Move the mouse in the direction to next control point.
Release the left mouse button and first part of the curve will be drawn. Repeating
this you can add more parts to the curve. In the right top panel is added row
with curve picture and text under selected layer.
Click on the 
Point button.
Move mouse over drawing board and click left mouse button where should be the
point. In the right top panel is added row with point picture and text under
selected layer.
Click on the 
Text button.
The cursor changes to cross. Move mouse over drawing board and click left mouse
button where should be the start of the text. Dialog for entering the text pops
up and you can add the text. After done with the text hit the OK button and
text will be drawn on the drawing board. Empty lines will be discarded.
Click on the 
Line Style
button. Dialog for changing the line style appears. In the dialog you can set
properties of the line which will be interactively shown on the example line
in preview window. Properties:

Text Style
button. Dialog for changing the text style appears. In the dialog you can set
properties of the text which will be interactively shown on the example text
in preview window. Properties:
After click on OK button current font will be show on the bottom info line.
Click on the 
Color button.
Dialog for outline or fill appears. After you selected desired and clicked OK
button, dialog for changing the color appears. Here are five tabs:
After finished with OK button, on bottom info line the color square will be accordingly set. Rim is outline color, inside is fill.
Delete button. Confirmation dialog appears. After click on the OK button, selected
shapes will be deleted.
Mirror button. Cursor will change to left - right arrows. Press left mouse button,
where you want to be the middle of the mirroring. Selected shapes will be mirrored
to the left or right, depending on the position of center of selected shapes to
the position where you pressed the mouse button.
Move button. Cursor will change to left - bottom - right - top arrows. Press the
left mouse button over drawing board, move the mouse and release the left mouse
button. The selected shapes will be moved.
Rotate button. Cursor will change to arc arrow. Press the left mouse button over
drawing board, move the mouse and release the left mouse button. The selected
shapes will be rotated.
Scale button. Cursor will change to left - bottom and right - top arrow. Press
the left mouse button over drawing board, move the mouse and release the left
mouse button . The selected shapes will be resized.
Group button..The selected shapes will be create a group. In the right top window
the selected shapes will be removed from the drawing tree and replaced by group
icon and text. This group will be added to the end of selected layer..
Ungroup button. The selected group will be un - grouped. Means it will be divided
to the original shapes, which are creating this group. In the right top window
the selected group will be removed from the drawing tree and replaced by original
shapes. This shapes should be on the original places. If there was shuffling of
shapes like move up or down, the shapes don't have to be on original position.
New button.
The confirmation dialog appears. After click on OK button the dialog for entering
the name of new picture root layer appears. If you don't enter any name, the root
will have default name Unknown.
Open Local button. If you are running unsignet applet, info dialog appears, as
unsigned applet has no access to local computer because of security. If you are
running application, open dialog appears. Find the file you want to open and click
OK button. Only svg files can be open, but this program has not full implementation
of svg standard (yet), so the svg files open should be the files, which were created
and saved by this program.
Save Local button. If you are running unsignet applet, info dialog appears, as
unsigned applet has no access to local computer because of security. If you are
running application, save dialog appears. Navigate to the folder where you want
to save your file and enter the file name. After click on OK button the file will
be saved.
Open Server button. The file selected in left window will be downloaded to your
picture. Shape will be drawn to the drawing board and picture layer will be added
in the right top drawing window. Careful, now picture will be drawn in the coordinates,
in witch it was saved. Select downloaded picture in the right top drawing window
as select subtree and fit the downloaded picture to your existing picture.
Fit All button. The
picture will be resized, so all features of picture will be shown in drawing window.
Zoom In button.
The cursor will change to cross. Press left mouse button over the drawing board.
Holding the button move the mouse. After you surrounded the area of your interest,
release the mouse button. Picture will be zoomed in. Continue this until you reached
desired zoom. After you reached max zoom (aprox. 100.000), picture will be not
zoom in any more.
Zoom Out button. The cursor will change to small hand. Press left mouse button
over the drawing board. Click the left mouse button. The picture will be zoomed
out by 10% and point where you clicked will be in the center. Repeat clicking
after you reached desired size.
Pan button.
The cursor will change to small hand. Press left mouse button over the drawing
board and move the mouse. Release the mouse in new position. The missing parts
of picture will be drawn.
Layers
button. Layers dialog shows up with all of the layers for current drawing in right
top windows. You can select and unselect layers to be visible or invisible. After
you done your selection, click OK button.
Click on the
Options button. Options dialog shows up with four tabs:
Info line contains:
Drawing tree contains all drawings information. The drawing tree consists of two basic types:
Layer is always named. If you don't provide a name, default name Unknown will be provided. At the top is root layer, which cannot be deleted. Click with the left mouse button on the line with layer icon and name. The selected layer is highlighted. Click on the right mouse button. The popup menu will show up. With popup menu you can:
Shape is added to the current selected layer. Click with the left mouse button on the line with shape icon and name. The selected shape is highlighted. Click on the right mouse button. The popup menu will show up. If more than one shape is selected, popup menu will not show up.With popup menu you can:
By polyline, polygon and curve you can also:
If one layer or shape is selected in drawing tree, properties for this will show up. Properties table consist from names and values. You can change value if you click left mouse button on property value. If is text information, you can edit it, if its another type of info, appropriet dialog will show up. If you have polyline, polygon or curve, to change appropriet point, click on the counter, up and down will appear, with clicking up and down buttons go to appropriate point and then click on value you want to change.
Server Info shows information from comunication with server. Not implemented yet.
Server Tree shows folders and files saved in the server database. Not implemented yet.
